Fine Art photography and prints by Mireya Cirici, artist and photographer

The Southwest is a paradise for photographers and I, like many others, have responded to its call. The Southwest that interests me as a photographer is the quiet, intimate landscape of the rural communities of Northern New Mexico: it is the landscape of adobe architecture and predominantly of Hispanic culture.

In my photographs I try to capture the spirit of place. Not only the traditional adobe buildings but the small details, the many things and objects that people create in their interactions with the land and with each other: a mud wall carefully plastered, a door painted with images of saints, a country store window all dressed up to attract customers, a roadside cross or a small adobe church or morada. These are, like symbols, expressions of a culture and a way of life that is both traditional and rapidly changing.
